Magnificent. No stunning poetic allegory like Tim O'Brien's Going After Cacciato. Nothing like the hallucinatory brilliance of Dispatches. Just a straightforward slog that drops you into the bush with Bravo Company and propels you along until you share their terror and exhaustion, their rage at the politics and futility, until you are awed by their self sacrifice and until you feel the mud under your own fingers. Best book of the year.
